Productivity and profitability – HOLZ-HER’s new machine concepts

Future-oriented machine concepts from the Nürtingen manufacturer of high-quality wood-processing machines, HOLZ-HER GmbH are on display at this year’s LIGNA 2011. The focus is on productivity and profitability for the joiner and the industry. HOLZ-HER places a great deal of emphasis on as little use as possible of energy resources such as electricity and compressed air. Modern control systems – such as the software “ECOMODE”, which was developed in-house take care of optimization within the machines.

Varied production with the 5-axle CNC processing centre PRO-MASTER 7225

Generous processing dimensions of the console table in X and Y direction and a Z hub up to 565 mm enable individual and varied processing on the newly designed 5-axle processing centre. The cardanic processing head with up to 17 kW (10 kW as standard) enables the precise manufacture of complex curved or cambered parts such as stair brackets or furniture shapes in expensive designs. The compact, powerful and fully interpolating processing head works at up to 24,000 min-1 and is extremely resilient with its ceramic bearings and liquid cooling. The 8-speed adjustable suction hood and optional waste conveyor belt achieve optimal extraction.
The machine controls as an interface to the user are an integral part of the machine design. The control software CAMPUS with its four components – aCADamy, NC-HOPS-Editior, WORKCENTER and MT-Manager also offers a simple connection to outside software for data transfer through its open software architecture.
The basic machine was welded in an extremely stable manner and does not permit any vibrations due to its solid construction. The surface-hardened linear guides are designed for a long lasting use for which HOLZ-HER gives a 10-year warranty.

In the 3-axle range, the PRO-MASTER 7018 offers high performance with a console table, an 11-kW spindle and a Y traverse path of up to 1,554 mm. Six consoles on linear guides each with two tubeless vacuum suction devices support the workpiece even in the case of double allocation on the table. A test of the tool/suction device fouling is integrated into the controls and the consoles/suction devices can be placed accordingly.
The high acceleration values with racks and ball bearing spindle drive and the high traverse speeds combined with very fast tool changing times make for short processing times for the individual workpieces. This ensures high productivity.

HOLZ-HER covers demand for nesting machines with the machines from the DYNESTIC series.
There are two different models available – 7515 and 7521. For panel dimensions up to 2,100 mm, the gantry machine DYNESTIC 7521 offers the appropriate Y processing dimension and X dimensions up to 6,500 mm for all nesting production possibilities. Automatic loading and unloading tables can be fitted. This ensures efficient production. Milling motors up to 11 kW and vacuum pumps with capacities up to 750 m3/h also increase production output.

Cutting on the highest level

A great deal of potential in the area of rationalization in the cutting sector of trade and industry arises from the synergy of a horizontal pressure beam saw with feed technology. The supply can take place via integrated lifting table system or area storage with direct supply to the machine. The horizontally stored panels are placed onto the saw via vacuum lifters. During cutting, the pressure beam saw can be fed from the magazine without this disturbing the current sawing cycle of the previous panels.

The panels are fed as necessary according to the optimized division by the software of the pressure beam saw. The CUT 6120 from HOLZ-HER uses the latest software, which also interactively displays allocations from the cut workpieces on certain pallets or storage locations in the 3-D controls. Labelling of the individual cuts clearly defines the parts and allocates the correct processing programmes to the other machines as e.g., the CNC processing centres. This thus reduces the work process and the manipulation and rest times to a minimum.
The CUT 6120 efficiently processes large amounts of panels efficiently with its high acceleration values and feed rates. A demanding level of fittings in the basic version, such as air-sprayed tables and an air-sprayed machine table for material-protecting handling and a controllable lateral pressure applying device for the highest precision leave pretty much nothing to be desired.

The LIGNA also offers the model CUT 6010 with cushion tables for handling the panel whilst being gentle on the surface. Saving room with a 7.5 kW saw motor, the basic machine from HOLZ-HER offers a very good price/performance ratio. Cutting lengths up to 4,400 mm and cutting widths up to 4,300 mm offer enough room for the most popular panel formats in order to achieve an effective division.

Optimization programmes enable the work to be prepared in a quick and uncomplicated manner – this makes most use of the material.

Panel division on less than 10 m2

The vertical panel saw CUT 1255 convinces with its new ergonomic design enabling the division of large-format panel materials up to the standard dimensions of 5,300 x 2,200 mm. The machine’s vertical construction spanning less than 10 m2 saves a great deal of space. Several product optimizations have taken place to increase performance or facilitate operation. The lower work support is fitted with wear-free stainless steel supports and the middle work support for cutting smaller workpieces is easy to fold. The longitudinal stop on hardened linear guides can be adjusted to the desired size quickly and without problems. This makes for efficient division of panel-shaped wood materials or composites.

With the vertical panel saws, the premium model CUT 1280 has the possibility of automatic positioning of the saw unit in the horizontal cut and the longitudinal stop in the vertical cut. Large-format panels can thus be divided in the shortest time. A 5.5 kW motor is powerful enough to divide panels up to 75 mm thick.

Edge processing re-defined

Within the product range of edge-banding machines, the AURIGA 1308 series is offered with three free places in the finishing area. The build up of radius and surface scrapers, spraying device for cleaning and the buffer unit enable a perfect finish to the edged panel. This renders any manual cost-intensive post-processing unnecessary. Workpiece thicknesses up to 60 mm and edge thicknesses up to 6 mm are possible. The 1308 model has a pre-milling unit and a form milling unit as standard so that it can be used for several applications.

The ARCUS series of edge-banding machines has been optimized in the inlet area so that various units can be combined in the modular system. A powerful pre-milling unit with milling tools with diameters of 100 mm are on offer. A synchronous magazine enables precise edge feed to the workpiece so that minimal edge overlap occurs and edge material is saved. This means that solid wood edges up to 20 mm thick can be processed easily. The ARCUS 1334 and ARCUS 1336 are available in an optimal assembly as complete models as are individual assemblies according to customers’ wishes.

All HOLZ-HER edge-banding machines are fitted standard with the “GluJet” adhesive application station for which the manufacturer provides a three-year warranty.

HOLZ-HER GmbH is a manufacturer of high-quality wood processing machines with its registered office in Nürtingen, Germany. HOLZ-HER GmbH currently has ca. 330 employees worldwide. Production spans four product areas with various models. The product areas of edge-banding machines, vertical panel saws, pressure beam saws and CNC processing stations are distributed by HOLZ-HER international via subsidiaries and specialist dealers.
